| require the use of "fair market value" as determined by dealer quotes from your area. Most companies subscribe to services that provides these quotes. Listen to their offer and ask for the supporting source. (actual dealer calls, subscriber services such as CCC or book value) They should fax / mail the actual info. Check your local dealers, go online or local auto trade paper for vehicles similar to yours. What you after is what similar vehicles actually sold for. (Not asking prices) document your findings. Perfect examples is talking to people who have just sold and are willing to tell you what they actually sold the vehicle for. (most will especially if you tell them why you are calling for) If your numbers match up to the insurance companies offer, than fine. If not, present them with your info and request they reconsider their offer. If you cant reach a reasonable (reasonable = realistic and expect your company to do the same) compromise, contact your local department of insurance for assistance. Good luck
